Nurse Juliany Lino Gomes Silva, currently in charge of the Skills Laboratory of the School of Medical Sciences (SMS) of University of Campinas (Unicamp), was awarded the Postgraduate Program of the Internationalization Program DERI (International Relations Office) no 65/2017 grant in 2017. As a PhD student in the Faculty of Nursing, and with support of the SMS - Unicamp, she spent 3 months in Portugal, where she worked on a sandwich doctorate with the Simulation in Nursing Education project and gained knowledge by participating in teaching and research activities related to this area of study.

She followed the clinical simulation activities at the simulation laboratories of the Coimbra School of Nursing and at the Simulation Center of the Hospitals of the University of Coimbra. She had the opportunity to learn about the structuring of the Simulation Center management services and about the organization of its teaching activities. She made a technical visit to the Simulation Center of the University of Porto, where it was possible to observe other ways of carrying out clinical simulations.

In addition to the experience in this area, she was also given the opportunity to gain familiarity with a number of Portuguese health service organizations, including the Stomatherapy service and the Pain Consultation service, emphasizing the use of non-pharmacological techniques, both located at the Regional Oncology Center of Coimbra, as well as with the São João Hospital Emergency Unit and the Intensive Care Unit of Santo Antônio Hospital in Porto. She also made a technical visit to the Fernão de Magalhães Health Center, where she accompanied a home visit and learned about that organization's general and rehabilitation nursing services.
