In March 2019 the University of Campinas welcomed his first international student from the University of Genova, Italy. Michele Bonetti is a medicine student of the fifth year and was involved in an international exchange of one semester in the School of Medical Sciences (SMS) and Hospital de Clínicas (HC) of University of Campinas (Unicamp).

In his first month he spent time in the Division of Infectious Disease where he had daily practice in the field of Tropical Diseases’ diagnosis and treatments, with special attention from Prof. Plínio Trabasso. In April he moved into the Department of Surgery where he attended in several areas as well as the Operating Room. During the Division of Plastic Surgery activities he visited the Burn Unit of the Hospital Santa Casa de Campinas.

This is his feedback about his experience: “My interest to come here has started some years ago, based on the passion I have on the field of Intensive Care, Trauma Surgery and Prehospital Emergency Medicine. Unfortunately is well known that Brazil has a high incidence of trauma-related injuries so I thought that coming here would allow me to have a daily approach to the integrated care of this type of patients. And I haven’t been deluded. I’m going to carry this experience with me in my future practice and to come back with a different vision and new valuable skills. I highly suggest this type of activity to my colleagues that are open to live a whole new experience. However, I suggest to follow a Portuguese course before coming here. I want also to express my gratefulness to all the amazing people that had cross my path: Professors, Residents, Nurses, Colleagues that have shared their knowledge with me letting me feel really well integrated in the Hospital. In particular I want to thank Dr. Gustavo Fraga, Chief of the Division of Trauma Surgery and of the International Office to get me involved in several activities”.

Michele has also participated on events of the Liga do Trauma like the Mass Casualty Event Simulation organized during the Maio Amarelo (the Yellow May) project - a month spent to do public awareness regarding the prevention of motor vehicle collisions.

Internship in the Division of Infectious Diseases

During the International Congress Intergastro & Trauma held in the first weekend of June in Campinas, he has presented a relation “Stop The Bleed Italy: how a basic medical training has arrived to be a public awareness campaign”. On July 1st to 5th Michele attended the Winter School 2019 and intensive week formation on the topic of “Trauma Leagues: apprenticeship from prevention to definitive treatment of trauma patients.”
