1. When should I start the preparation to carry out an internship or a period of mobility in a foreign university?

We recommend you begin to make contact with the foreign university and prepare the necessary documentation at least one semester in advance. Required list of documents is variable among foreign universities and international office, each one must be contacted for precise information.

2. What is the best period to do an internship or a period of mobility during my undergraduate course?

First of all you must decide how long you want to stay abroad. If you choose to do a short term internship or period of mobility (i.e., 1 or 2 months) we recommend do in your vacation time, since is not allowed block this period during the regular semester activities.

If you intend to do long term internship or period of mobility (i.e., 1 semester or 1 year) you will need to officially pause your regular course in SMS-UNICAMP. For precise information, you must contact “DAC” and “CEG”. 

3. What universities can I apply for an internship or a period of mobility?

You can find detailed information in International Office of SMS-UNICAP web site (http://www.fcm.unicamp.br/fcm/international-office/opportunities).

We will be glad to receive you in the International Office room to know which are the partner universities who SMS-UNICAMP have international collaboration. Other option is have the guidance of a SMS-UNICAMP professor who has a international experience in his carrier.

4. What are the main steps I should take to do an international internship or a mobility period?

  • -    Start your plan one semester or a year in advance;
  • -    To decide when and how long time you want to be in a foreign university;
  • -    To choose what university you would like to go;
  • -    To contact the international office of chosen university;
  • -    To provide the required list of documents of chosen university;
  • -    Get information about health insurance, VISA, costs of living, accommodation;
  • -    Get information about academic rules of chosen university;
  • -    Get information about student grants from SMS-UNICAMP, chosen university, or Brazilian research agencies;
  • -    Ask for an acceptance letter of the host university;
  • -    Be informed about how to make an official break in your regular course at SMS-UNICAMP;

5. Do I need health insurance?

For your safety we recommend that the student must provide an international health insurance with medical coverage, hospital and repatriation, which must be arranged by the student from the day of travel until return to Brazil.

6. What type of VISA do I need?

A VISA is mandatory. You can only apply for the student visa when you have received your acceptance letter from the host university. 

7. What should I do if I don’t have immunization records?

You should make a medical consultation with a general practice or a specialist on infectious diseases; a blood sample could be used to test for serological confirmation of immunity of some infectious diseases. You can be advised to receive specific vaccinations. 

8. Do I need to take English proficiency exam?

You need to check with the international office of the chosen university if this exam is required. In most part of the cases be fluently in English is desirable.
