“Unicamp has proved to be a world reference in its activities to date”, said the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) representative Hiroshi Sato, when he unveiled the Japanese Government's Award to a foreign university for the first time. The revelation took place on the morning of Wednesday (18), in the amphitheater of Hospital de Clinicas (HC), University of Campinas (Unicamp), during the reopening ceremony of the Laboratory of Molecular Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases (LEMDI), of the School of Medical Sciences (SMS) of Unicamp.

The project entitled The project for the establishment of a research and reference collaborative system fro the diagnosis of fungal infections including drug-resistant ones both in Brazil and Japan received US $ 5 million, from the Japanese Government, in a collaborative research project signed by the Japan Internation Cooperation Agency - JICA and UNICAMP, to carry out research projects in fungal infections, through the partnership with Chiba University.

Maria Luiza Moretti, infectious diseases doctor, and coordinator of LEMDI organized the ceremony, and welcomed all participants attending the Opening Session, and thanked the Japanese people and JICA. I dedicate this award to the Japanese people, for their collaboration, generosity, and example of citizenship. This partnership was cultivated over 25 years with respect, honesty, responsibility and, above all, the trust between Brazilians and Japanese, which contributed substantially to the mutual growth of the citizens of both countries”she said.
