Activities for the third year of the medical undergraduate program

The Urology Division is co-responsible, along with the Pathological Anatomy Division, for the subject MD 644, Integrated Physiopathology (Genitourinary Tract – Male urinary and genital tracts).  This course is given in the second semester of the third year.  It presents the more important theories of urology, while focusing on the physiopathology diagnosis of urological diseases that are important for doctors in general.

Activities for the fourth year of the medical undergraduate program

The Urology Division participates in the subject MD 752, Clinic Care-Integrated Surgery I, given in the fourth year at the Medical College.  The students are divided into groups for theory and practical classes.  The program for the activities of the practical classes are the responsibility of the Urology Division and are given on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, from 10 to 12, at the Urology Clinic and Main Surgical Center at the Clinic Hospital – UNICAMP.

Activities for the sixth year of the medical undergraduate program

The Urology and Nephrology Divisions have developed the subject MD 134 Nephro-Urology.  The general objective of this class is to teach the students through their complete immersion in attending, under supervision, the patients, conditioning them to rationalize clinically and decide the best manner of behavior in a certain situation.  Specific objectives include accustoming the students to prepare an anamnesis and examine correctly the urologic patients; follow ethic guide-lines; give pre and post operative assistance to patients who have undergone urologic surgeries; integrate the knowledge of clinical medicine and general surgery to help those patients with urological problems; and use, judiciously, the technological resources for the diagnosis of diseases and learn the basic principles to interpret the results.

Scientific Research

The participation of students in research, developed in the Urology Division, has always been considered of great importance in the formation of self-criticism of a medical doctor and to awaken a vocation in future researchers.

The program of the initiation of scientific studies is based on a clinical or experimental research over a period of twelve months.  All projects that are developed must be linked with the request for a scholarship from an organization that promotes research which will analyze if the request has merit. The students interested in participating can contact directly the coordinator of their particular area of interest or send an e-mail to: riccetto@fcm.unicamp.br
