Nicolas Pedrosa Oleinik and Thiago Alexandre M. Pinto, students of the 5th-year at School of Medical Sciences (SMS) of University of Campinas (Unicamp) were accepted to Groningen´s Summer school, in Netherlands. There, they learned with other students from other parts of the world, about essential global health issues. The course was based on daily lectures and group discussions, where the students were assigned to create projects of intervention for the problem exposed.

It was an enriching experience for the students; since they were able to have different perspectives of medicine from their colleagues, they presented the Brazilian outlook of the common diseases of the world.

The reality of the Brazilian public health system (Unique Health System, SUS, in Portuguese) is different from developed countries, such as the Netherlands. However, the Summer School program highlighted that the lack of resources that medicine students in Brazilian public Universities face, have only a minor influence on their formation as doctors.
