Between July 26th and 29th, in Erlangen, Germany, the 8th International Summer School for Neuropathology and Epilepsy Surgery (INES) took place. 51 students from different countries across Europe, Americas and Asia participated. As part of the academic staff, there were specialists from Germany, Brazil, South Korea, England, Italy, Canada and Netherlands, who work in different areas linked to research, diagnostics and treatment of different clinical conditions that occur with epilepsy (neuropathologists, neurologists, neurosurgeons and neurogeneticists).

The School of Medical Sciences (SMS) professors Enrico Ghizoni, Fábio Rogério, Fernando Cendes e Iscia Lopes-Cendes, from the departments of Neurology, Anatomic Pathology and Medical Genetics, represented the University of Campinas (UNICAMP). In addition to the Summer School, they also participated in a workshop in which they discussed the results of research projects about histopathological and molecular analysis of Focal Cortical Dysplasia (FCD), one of the causes of epilepsy. These projects are being developed in partnership with researchers from the Department of Neuropathology from Friedrich-Alexander Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, coordinated by professor Ingmar Blümcke and financed, partially, by FAPESP (Cepid Brainn and Sprint).

The INES already took place twice in Brazil, at UNICAMP, in 2015 and 2017. The next edition in Brazil shall took place, again, at SMS. Further details will be released soon.
