Ryana do Val Roso, a 5th-year medical student at School of Medical Sciences (SMS) of University of Campinas (Unicamp), was accepted for an observership program at the Division of Acute Care Surgical Services at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), Richmond, VA, USA.

In a two week period on September 2019 she was able to understand and experience every step of trauma care. Starting with a Basic Life Suport course, learning about pre-hospital care with Richmond Ambulance Authority, observing the hospitalar trauma care in trauma bay and finally visiting the Intensive Care Unit. Always focusing on giving the patients the best treatment.

She told: “I’am very impressed with the great structure and organization available at VCU Health. Even more impressed with the amazing human resource that is responsible for this high quality service. Hopefully I can spread my learnings back in Brazil to improve our service. I am thankful to everyone who helped me to take part in this program, specially Dr. Bruno Pereira, and to all the lovely people who made my time at VCU remarkable. This was a lifetime experience and I am already looking forward to coming back someday”.

On September 2014, the Division of Trauma Surgery of SMS - Unicamp received during one month as invited professor the Dr. Rao Ivatury, from Virginia Commonwealth University. See the news here.
